When she began to conceive Epioneers, in 2020, Ilana Milkes (MBA in Renewable Energy with a focus on finance) had worked at companies in M&A and in innovation in the areas of derivatives, education and cleantech. After 8 years in these segments, she had the opportunity to create a solution that would bring blockchain technology together with the environmental credits market and bring more traceability and reliability to the trading of carbon credits.
Ilana founded Epioneers, a Crypto Climate Bank based in Brazil with branches in Colombia and, soon, the United States and the United Kingdom. Its tokens are called Selva.
“This market is going to expand like never before and, in less than a year, that growth will be exponential. Brazil could be exporting billions of dollars a year in carbon credits because it has one of the largest green areas in the world, but it does not yet have the infrastructure for that,” says Ilana.
Winner of the Latam Edge Award 22 in the Fintech category, Epioneers is starting out by offering a VISA-branded Climate Corporate Card for companies and employees who want to reach NetZero faster. It has also signed a partnership with Dock, a leader in solutions for the payments market in Latin America, to launch the world’s first Crypto Climate Bank.
The company has received investment from Algorand and Stacks, and is moving ahead with the opening of its operation in Cambridge, in the United Kingdom, taking advantage of the Latam Edge Award prize to engage with the British market.
